Apus apus -group has exhibition at Ibrahim’s Khan, Vas. Olgas and Konstantinou Kanari street, Mouttalos, Paphos. Set at Ibrahim’s Khan, an area of rich and diverse cultural heritage, the exhibition Apus Apus presents paintings, sculpture, performance and a discussion workshop that celebrate the interconnections of different cultures. The group, which comprises of artists based in Finland, UK and Cyprus, explores the hybridity and commonalities of cultural identities, for example through myth, archaeology, philosophy and personal histories.
The exhibition and its events are part of the European Capital of Culture Pafos2017 programme of events and of the project “Open Scene Mouttalos”. The project “Open Scene Mouttalos” hosts open air events referring to the memories the area carries. It also promotes dialogue and co-existence.
Apus apus is the Latin name for the common swift, a bird whose annual migration route links Finland and Cyprus. The swift is a nomad, capable of remaining in near-constant flight during the early years of its life. These attributes inspired the group, members of which have adopted various cultures and countries as their home during the course of their lives.

Apus apus -ryhmä vietti kuukauden Kyproksella tehden yhteisnäyttelyn Pafokselle osana Pafoksen Euroopan kulttuuripääkaupunki ohjelmaa. Lokakuinen siirtymä Suomesta Välimerelle herätti eloon. Vaikka paikalliset ryhmämme jäsenet olivat helpottuneita helteiden väistymisestä, meille pohjoisesta tulleille se oli sateisen kesän jälkeen lämmin paratiisi, jossa tarkeni uida meressä ja nauttia ulkona olemisesta. Konstantina ja Alexia Achilleos joutuivat kielitaitoisina ja paikkallisina huolehtimaan pitkälti näyttelyyn liittyvistä tuotannon asioista samalla, kun toimivat meidän vieraanvaisina ystävinämme ja oppaanaimme Kyproksella. Apus apus on lämmin ryhmä, jossa työskentely on mukavaa ja koko ajan sidoksissa työroolien lisäksi ystävyyteen ja elämän jakamiseen. Se tekee siitä erityisen.
